The Bedias Civic Club is getting ready to celebrate Christmas in Bedias in a big way. Everything is set for Saturday, Dec. 18, starting with Breakfast with Santa at the Civic Center, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Pancake Breakfast, then a Gingerbread House Contest also at the Civic Center at 10:30 a.m. Next is the Bedias Christmas Parade starting at 6 p.m., followed by Cookies with Santa back at the Civic Center at 7 p.m. Please go to the Civic Club Facebook page, www. facebook.com/BediasCivic- ClubAssoc, for all the updates.

Richards ISD PTO is no different, their upcoming plans and student activities are proof that PTO in our community continues to strive towards success. The group announced the need for volunteers at RISD every Tuesday and Thursday to help with skill development at RISD. Parents can sign up via Sign Up Genius Panther PTO “Panther Parents Volunteer” or email pantherPTO@ yahoo.com. Volunteers will help with math and reading skill development.
Read moreSaturday was a good day for a parade. The Veterans Day parade was held in downtown Navasota. Unfortunately, I didn’t attend because I was working the Post, but I did get feedback from people who came to the Post to visit with veterans, take advantage of the information from the representatives of the Veterans Benefits Office (Houston) and enjoy the baked goodies and raffle items the Auxiliary had to offer. The parade participants indicated they were larger in numbers than the spectators. I wish I could fix that.

Walter Herbert Richards, age 101, were held at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan on Friday, Oct. 29, with a large number of family members and family friends attending. He was born Jan. 14, 1920 in Wheelock and passed away Oct. 23, 2021. He was married to Margaret Denton and they were married 73 years before her death in 2013. They had two children, Rev. Eugene Richards and Marilu McDonald. They have several grandchildren and great grandchildren as well. Several of the family members participated in the service. He was buried in Evergreen Cemetery beside his wife. Following the service lunch was served to family and friends. Richards was the former minister of Evergreen Free Will Baptist Church twice and pastored at other Free Will Baptist Churches. He was certainly a good man and will certainly be missed. Do remember his children and other family members in your prayers.
