Concord Cemetery Association meeting Oct. 21
Keith Civic Club held their monthly meeting Thursday, Sept. 28, at Keith Community Center with a fair number of members and visitors. The covered dish meal was enjoyed by all present. The guest speaker was Alec Pointer, who spoke on behalf of Iola School Board. Everyone enjoyed his presentation that included goals for the school year. Following his presentation, a variety of business was discussed and taken care of. There will be a garage sale to benefit the Civic Club Saturday, Oct. 21, from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. All sort of good items will be offered for sale at the community center. Come out and help support the club.
A tombstone was recently placed in Martins Prairie Cemetery in memory of Lois Fay Meier Coneley, who was born Jan. 10, 1938 and died Jan. 24, 2022. She was the wife of Carroll Clayton Coneley beside whom she is buried. May they both be blessed and always remembered.
I recently saw the former home of Hardy Stephens was torn down. It had been in poor condition for some time.
The monthly distribution of food at Iola Missionary Baptist Church is Saturday, Oct. 21. The pantry will be open from 9-11 a.m. Anyone needing a helping hand are invited to come by for assistance. The pantry will be open at noon for volunteers to help set up the day before. Anyone wanting to help get the pantry ready to help their friends and neighbors are welcome to attend.
Concord Cemetery Association is hosting their annual meeting Oct. 21, at 11 a.m. at the Concord Chapel. It is always the third Saturday in October. There are several people that have passed away since last year. If you can’t attend and would like to donate to the cemetery, you may send the donation to Concord Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 114, Iola Texas, 77861. The president of the association is Andy Selman. His number is 979-218-9547.
The pulpit at Evergreen Baptist Church was filled Sunday, Oct. 1, by Matt Carey. He is the associate pastor of administration of FNC in Madisonville. He was accompanied by his wife Peggy. They once lived in the Keith Community. His sermon was “All we need is love.”
Orphans Friend Masonic Lodge No. 17 held their monthly meeting at their lodge hall in Anderson Oct. 2, with a good number in attendance. The covered dish meal was enjoyed by all. During the meeting it was announced that David Levoy passed away. There were other business items discussed and acted upon.
Bedias Masonic Lodge held their monthly meeting at their lodge hall Oct. 3, with a good number of visitors present. The covered dish meal was enjoyed. During the meeting, the District Deputy Grand Master, Larry Gene Smith, made his second visit. Also present was past Grand Master, Tommy Griffin, who was in office in 2008. He brought an address that was well received.
