Thanks to White Hall Grocery, White Hall Café, White Hall Community VFD along with Salem Lutheran Church for inviting children to do their trick or treating in a safe environment. The Truck or Treat at the VFD had more visitors than last year. I like visiting with the children and parents. My great-grandson Kohen looked cute in his bull rider outfit. He had to have new boots, vest and jeans because he is getting so tall. My homemade chaps were just the right length. He ditched the big black cowboy hat for a plastic VFD hat and wanted to check out the fire trucks. Ken Cox invited him to sit in one and he was excited. For volunteers who worked to make this all happen, thank you.

Grimes County Mobile Food Bank will be open Thursday, Nov. 9 from 10-11:30 a.m. in the back-parking lot of the Grimes County Fairgrounds in Navasota. Any resident of Grimes County will be served and only need to show their driver’s license when they complete the once-a-year Client Assistant Intake form. The good news for the week, or month, is we are no longer under a burn ban. We have been under one for several months. Just be careful and safe when burning. Iola Food Pantry was open Saturday, Oct. 21. The Pantry is open the third Saturday each month in the Iola Missionary Baptist Church Fellowship Hall from 9-11 a.m. It is open to anyone in need. I understand Bedias Baptist Church, Cross Baptist Church and others helped assist those who came for food.

Veterans Day, Nov. 11, will be celebrated with a parade, fundraiser drawings for Grimes County VFW Post 4006 Auxiliary and ending with the Navasota Grimes County Chamber of Commerce Reds, Wheats & Blues Festival at the VFW from 3-8 p.m. There will be several bands including Tubie and the Touchtones, Cari Hutson & Good Company, Randy Pavlock, and Shinyribs. Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Washington has Tutoring Youth Empowerment Services to help our children succeed in their studies. The tutoring is every Thursday from 6-7:15 p.m. The burn ban in Grimes County has been lifted.

The annual homecoming football game was held in Iola Friday, Oct. 13, with a good number of people in attendance. Iola defeated Milano 40-7. Good going Iola. The king and queen were installed. They are Lindsey Gooch as the queen and Cadence Shive as king. Best wishes to both of them. The evening before there was a bonfire with lots of good eats, including hamburgers.
