Read moreThe Lady Panthers Volleyball team won the Navasota Freshman Tournament hosted by NISD. The team consisting of a mixture of 12 junior high to senior aged players, played hard throughout the tournament. Prior to the NISD Freshman tournament, the Lady Panthers competed at NISD in the varsity tournament, bringing home second place in the silver bracket. The ladies will compete again in the Navasota Junior High Tournament Saturday, Sept. 25.
Read moreBeing a WHCVFD auxiliary member, I know smoke is normally not a good thing, however smoke is okay at football games when it happens around the blow-up huts the football players run through. I have seen several colors, but last Friday orange was the color and the first attempt for the smoke failed. That was actually not okay as Bree got the canister and started running to get it to blow out. Knowing how accident-prone she is, it was a fearful few moments. I was the happy halftime attempt worked well except for all the people coughing as the wind blew smoke toward the Yeguas team fans. Have you figured out who purchased the smoke?

Read moreThe annual Martin Prairie Cemetery Association meeting was held at Martins Prairie Missionary Baptist Church on Sunday, Sept. 5, with good attendance. The meeting was called to order by Dexter Lavender. Opening prayer was led by Ron Frazier. Two songs were sung and a special song by song was performed by John Briscoe. He performed “Leaning on the Everlasting Arms.” A devotional was given by Stanton Hill.
