The annual Iola Coon Hunt was held at Iola Fire Department. A good time was enjoyed by all. Iola FFA was in charge of the meal. Over three days, steak, hamburgers and fish were served. Food was enjoyed by all. FFA raised a good amount of money for their projects. God bless all that bought and contributed.
I was sorry to learn that Carlos Fellowship Church had a good deal of water damage to their fellowship hall from busted water pipes during the freeze. They are currently getting everything repaired. God bless them as they get everything back in order.
Area residents were sorry to learn of the death of longtime resident, Mae Kolbachinski Bushman, who passed away Friday, Dec. 30, 2022. She was born Tuesday, June 1, 1926 to Barney and Annie Kolbachinski in the Carlos area. In 1944 she graduated from Iola High School. She married Eugene Gene Bushman and they continued their lives together until his death May 16, 2022. They lived in Houston until he retired. Then they returned to their farm in Grimes County. Both were members of Hillcrest Baptist Church. Her funeral was held at Hillcrest Baptist Church Friday, Jan. 6, and burial was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Carlos where her husband, parents and other family members are buried. Do remember her children and other family in your prayers.
Iola Food Pantry is Saturday, Jan. 21, at Iola Missionary Baptist Church Fellowship Hall from 9-11:30 a.m. Anyone needing a helping hand are welcome. The day before workers will gather at noon to set up the pantry. Volunteers are welcome to assist.
Iola North Zulch Order of the Eastern Star will be held Monday, Jan. 23 at the Pyramid Masonic Lodge in North Zulch. The meeting will begin with a covered dish meal including chili and other good eats. All members of the Eastern Star are invited to attend.
