Local Masonic Lodges meet Nov. 6 and 7

The good news for the week, or month, is we are no longer under a burn ban. We have been under one for several months. Just be careful and safe when burning.

Iola Food Pantry was open Saturday, Oct. 21. The Pantry is open the third Saturday each month in the Iola Missionary Baptist Church Fellowship Hall from 9-11 a.m. It is open to anyone in need. I understand Bedias Baptist Church, Cross Baptist Church and others helped assist those who came for food. Around 84 people came for food and the food given will feed around 253 people. In addition to the usual canned goods and meat, there were an assortment of baked goods and a large variety of fresh vegetables.

Concord Cemetery Association held their annual meeting at the Concord Chapel Oct. 11. A variety of business was discussed and acted on. People buried in the cemetery since last year include Don Edgar Mc-Dougald, Scott Duane Wingate, Roger Allen Manuel, Sybil Mae Douthitt Hauptmann, John Dee Bertling, Catherine Imogene Tibbs Abshire and Betty Calvert Lindsay. May their memories be forever blessed.

Iola football defeated Bartlett on the road, 62-12, Oct. 20. Iola has certainly played well this year.

Cross Baptist Church held their annual revival Oct. 16-19. Rev. Jon Groves of Orlando, Florida conducted the revival. There was good attendance each night with decisions made each service. The Cross Baptist Church pastor is Rev. Monroe Rice.

Evergreen Baptist Church had a fish fry following their morning worship service Oct. 22. Fish with all the trimmings was enjoyed by all in attendance. There were also lots of good desserts as well. Happy birthday was sung to Rev. Jeff Morgan and to others as well. A good time was enjoyed by all.

Keith Civic Club held a rummage sale Saturday, Oct. 21, and it was certainly a success. Lots of good items were sold. The money raised will help the club with ongoing expenses. There were also others having sales around the community center. The Civic Club had another sale Oct. 28.

Orphans Friend Masonic Lodge No. 17 will have their monthly meeting Monday, Nov. 6. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. with a covered dish meal and followed by the business meeting. Bedias Masonic Lodge No. 651 will have their lodge meeting Tuesday, Nov. 7, beginning at 6:30 p.m. with a covered dish meal. The business meeting will follow. All Masons are invited to attend.

Iola North Zulch Order of the Eastern Star held their meeting at Pyramid Masonic Lodge in North Zulch Oct. 23, with a large number of members and visitors attending. The covered dish meal was enjoyed by all.Among those present were three young ladies from Aggieland Patriot Paws, and they brought three dogs with them. The ladies and others train dogs to assist disabled veterans. Also visiting the meeting was Bill Wyatt, a former Grand Patron of the State of Texas Order of the Eastern Star. His wife, Ann Wyatt, and two other ladies who were former Eastern Star officers also attended. At the close of the meeting, Ann brought a program. Everyone had a wonderful evening.

The pulpit at Iola Church of Christ was filled Oct. 22, by Allen Sanford in the absence of Pastor Donnie Chappel.
