Well folks, election time is almost here. Tuesday, March 5 is the big day. All polling locations will be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. We will be voting for national, state and local races. Do your civic duty and vote. Early voting is ongoing at the Grimes County Courthouse and Navasota Center. Call, 936-8732111 for more information. Heather Watkins, a Navasota History teacher, was named as a finalist for the David C. DeBoe Texas History Day Teacher of the Year Award. This award is presented by the Texas State Historical Association. To be considered for the competitive award, teachers must engage their students in historical research through the National History Day Program. TSHA only names 15 finalists out of 230 applicants.

Don’t forget to early vote in this very important primary election. Early voting began Tuesday, Feb. 20 and continues through Friday, Mar. 1. You can vote early at the Grimes County Courthouse on Main Street in Anderson or the Navasota Center in Navasota. Check the newspaper or website for dates and times.

Grimes County Commissioner Barbara Walker shared a notice from TxDOT about a future project that will impact traffic on FM 2988. TxDOT plans to work on Texas 6 at FM 2988 Feb. 26 to March 8. The project is expected to last approximately 11 days. Traffic will be rerouted to CR 318 then back to FM 2988. Use caution in the area and with the detour. The construction will add a safety lane for entrance onto Texas 6 from FM 2988.

Keith Civic Club will have their monthly meeting at the Keith Community Center Thursday, Feb. 22, beginning at 6:30 p.m. with snacks and desserts. I spoke to an agent from Entergy the other day and was impressed with him. We talked over an hour about his time in the military, challenges he faced growing up and his interest in computer/cyber technology. As we talked, I forget why I called. Most times I wouldn’t care about techy stuff, but he kept my attention. I was taking notes to share with Chucky about headsets, games and where to buy those items.
