Venture back in time at the American Legion Post 640 annual fundraiser Saturday, Feb. 1, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. featuring the Terry Price Elvis Tribute at the KC Hall in Anderson. The Southern Songbirds will also perform. Advance tickets are $20 or $25 at the door which includes a hamburger meal. There will also be a silent auction and raffles. The annual coon hunt in Iola, Jan. 15–18, benefitting the FFA was certainly successful. The place was packed and lots of good food was served. A meal with steak and hamburgers was served the first day. A meal with fish and all the trimmings was served the final day. Thanks to all that assisted.

The Charm & Sewing 4-H Club is hosting a Public Speaking Workshop, Saturday, Jan. 25, at the Grimes County Fairgrounds Go Texan Building, 5220 FM 3455, in Navasota, beginning at 9 a.m. Public speaking is an essential skill that opens doors to confidence, leadership, and personal growth. Whether you’re a seasoned speaker or feel butterflies just thinking about standing at the podium, this project is designed to guide participants in conquering their fears and delivering presentations with poise. Participants will be equipped to research, organize, and present on any given topic, paving the way for success in competitions and real–world scenarios.

As many of you know, the Navasota FFA building at the high school suffered a fire. The school has insurance but there are various items the insurance company doesn’t cover. The FFA Booster Club is hosting a fundraiser at the White Hall Community Center, 2200 FM 362 in Navasota, Saturday, Jan. 18, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. to help provide additional items needed for those students.

The flags at Keith Cemetery were at half–mast last week in memory of former president, Jimmie Carter. He died Sunday, Dec. 29, at the age of 100. He did a great deal of good for our nation and will be missed by many. May his memory be forever blessed.
