Read moreArea residents were sorry to learn of the death of Rev. Bill Gene Adkisson who passed away Saturday, Feb. 11, at age 84. He was formerly the Pastor of Evergreen Free Will Baptist Church – which is now Evergreen Baptist Church. Adkisson was born July 3, 1938 to Rudolph and Alice Adkisson. He married Peggy Marshall and they spent many years of happiness together until she passed away Feb. 27, 2016. After they returned to Missouri, he was the Pastor of Evergreen for 7 years, from 1997-2004. They were owners of First Storage Facility in Iola until they moved away. His funeral was held Wednesday, Feb. 15. His burial was in the IOOF Cemetery in Charleston, MO. Do remember his children and other family members in your prayers.

The next few months are packed with several fish fry gatherings throughout the county. As a reminder, Salem Lutheran Church will be hosting their annual gathering Friday, March 24, at the White Hall Community Center. Amanda and her students in the club thank everyone who donated new and gently used winter clothing items to their clothing drive that was held before Christmas break. They had an abundance of donations come in and were able to help over 60 people in our community stay warm. They appreciate everyone

Friday was the final home basketball game for the Yeguas against Iola. I can’t recall the final score for the JV team because I got so excited about the antics of DaeDae, one of the players. Not sure why he came out of his shell, but he sure did. Had he worn a striped shirt I would have thought he was the referee.
