Campsis radicans, trumpet vine or trumpet creeper, is a perennial Texas native. It is a deciduous woody vine that can get 40 feet high and 10 feet wide using aerial roots. Its opposite leaves have 9 to 11 leaflets with sawed edges. It climbs by wrapping its stem around a support. If a stem touches the ground it will root. The vine is strong enough to bring down some structures. In Latin Campsis means "to curve". Radicans means "stems with roots".

Bean played baseball in Bellville Friday at Faith Academy. Fortunately, there was a father from Somerville who took over the yelling, arguing an out that was called on Bean. He had me laughing. The team does not have strong pitchers and they walked in quite a few runs. The coach started moving boys to the mound. The loud father hollered at Joni that Bean would be pitching. She laughed and said no, but he was placed on the mound. I lost count, but I think he was the seventh boy on the mound and the last! That big boy has never pitched, and you could tell! He threw a couple of strikes, but the other pitches were really wild. I was laughing so hard that I started coughing. Another parent from Somerville came over with a cough drop for me!

Read moreLast Friday I had the pleasure of a full day with Jackson. Jack is seven months old and was booted out of daycare in College Station because he had a low-grade fever. His mom and Kaleigh both teach at Wellborn Junior High and his mom was an assistant dance instructor at Navasota when Paige was there. Little Jack had to get used to Gingi but I guess I did okay because he did not want to sleep. Kacie says the reason that little ones do not want to sleep here is because they don’t want to miss anything. Little Man was not too sure about the baby.
