Venture back in time at the American Legion Post 640 annual fundraiser Saturday, Feb. 1, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. featuring the Terry Price Elvis Tribute at the KC Hall in Anderson. The Southern Songbirds will also perform. Advance tickets are $20 or $25 at the door which includes a hamburger meal. There will also be a silent auction and raffles. Read moreArea residents were sorry to learn of the death of Katie Jane “Janie” Norman who passed away Jan. 13. She was born Dec. 23, 1949, to J.P. and Pearl Maxwell Norman. She grew up in the Iola area and graduated from Iola High School. For many years she lived in Houston and later in Friendswood. She is survived by her brothers Jerry Norman and his wife Bobbie, Joe P. Norman and his wife Patty, John M. Norman, sister–in–law Billie Norman and many nieces, nephews and other family members.

Read moreThe annual coon hunt in Iola, Jan. 15–18, benefitting the FFA was certainly successful. The place was packed and lots of good food was served. A meal with steak and hamburgers was served the first day. A meal with fish and all the trimmings was served the final day. Thanks to all that assisted.
