Keith Civic Club held their monthly meeting at Keith Community Center June 26 with a good number in attendance. Instead of a covered dish meal, everyone enjoyed ice cream, sandwiches and other goodies. Everyone had a wonderful time. During the business meeting it was shared that everyone is enjoying the new chairs that were recently purchased. There was a variety of other business discussed and acted on.

Read moreOn June 1, the Galveston-Houston Diocese assigned Fr. David Michael Moses as the new priest for St. Stanislaus in Anderson and Christ Our Light in Navasota. He is 30 years old, the fifth of six children, and was raised in a Catholic family in Houston. He began college at age 14 and graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Houston-Clear Lake at the age of 18.

Read moreDistrict 12 State Representative, Trey Wharton, was honored June 27 with a steak dinner at Lucky B Bison Ranch in Bryan for his dedication to Texas law enforcement. Wharton sponsored House Bill 2217 that passed legislation and was signed by Governor Greg Abbott into law. The law requires bullet resistance windshields for Texas patrol vehicles.

Read moreThere was certainly a good turnout for the Iola Food Pantry at Iola Missionary Baptist Church June 21. There were all sorts of good items distributed including fresh vegetables, canned goods, eggs, frozen meat, and other items. There were 80 people that showed up for food which will feed around 230 people. The pantry is open the third Saturday each month from 9–11 a.m. All those that are in need of a helping hand are invited to come out. Volunteers are also needed the day before to help set up and on the day of to help distribute.
