We start the week by announcing key wins in Richards. Tyler Calhoun, age 15, competed in the National High School Rodeo Finals in Lincoln, Nebraska July 18- 24 and earned Texas High School Rodeo Association (THSRA) Reserve Champion Tie Down Roper. He is the son of Poppa and Sylvia Calhoun. Tyler homeschools to allow for constant travel and national competitions. While Tyler is a heavy hitter within the high school rodeo circuit, he also spends time focusing on animal health working his horses on a regular practice schedule and learning the ins and outs of caring for his animals on his own. Once his high school rodeo days are over, Tyler would like to build his career as a cowboy.

We also learned that Mrs. Verdell Jessie was his teacher when she taught in Courtney. It is very interesting to learn more history about the people of our county.
Read moreWednesday, June 16, was a very special day for the membership of Evergreen Baptist Church. One of their former pastors, Rev. Faron W. Thebeau attended the Texas Free Will Baptist state meeting in Austin. Before returning home to Rolla, Missouri, he and his wife Abbie and their children, Itza, Truman and Dominic, and his mother-in-law Graciela Cura, visited Evergreen Baptist Church. There was a pizza party held for them with several attending to visit with the family. It was good to see them.

Richards Civic Club and Richards Volunteer Fire Department have put together a community tailgating party at Teague Park, right behind the Richards VFD station - Sunday July Fourth, starting at 5 p.m. This is a first-time tailgate party for the two groups, both hoping to have a big turnout. Bring your lawn chairs, lawn games, snacks, drinks, and BBQ pits!

Read moreIt’s been a big week in Richards - Friday RISD Seniors were honored as they walked the stage for their final act as Panthers. This group of 17 young adults have plans that range from Agricultural Science, Social Media Marketing, to Cyber Security and Government protection. Guest speaker for the RISD graduation was be Robert Frazier, brother to History Teacher for RISD Timothy Frazier. Robert Frazier has a background working for the US Government with a specialty in securities and policies. While his brother Timothy Frazier has worked for RISD for several years and works with students to teach U.S. and local history as well as important civics for local government.
