Bouteloua curtipendula, sideoats grama, is a perennial, warm-season, clump-forming grass found in most of North America. It is a Texas native, 8 to 36 inches tall with a jointed hollow stem. In the spring, when young, it is light bluegreen turning to shades of purple when mature. Leaves are about 1 foot long, ½ inch wide, alternate, light green to blue-green.

Read moreThe Grimes County Fair has come and gone and now these fair participants can enjoy the rest of the summer which goes by so fast. But these “dog days of summer” with the temperatures in the 100s seem to linger slowly. I remember as a kid the hottest days of summer were June and July but as a rule, the hottest days tend to come in August and September. As for winter, the coldest days used to be in November and December but seems to come in January and February these years. I know it has something to do with our atmosphere but since science was not my favorite subject in school I didn’t catch onto the reasoning behind it all!
