Well folks, school is out until August. Iola graduation was held May 23, at the Iola High School Gym with 36 students graduating. The baccalaureate service was held at Iola Missionary Baptist Church and many of the seniors were present. Dr. Tim Owens brought the message. Refreshments were served in the fellowship hall after service. A good time was held by all. Pray for the kids as they go on to better things.

The 2025 Grimes County Fair Queen, Haylee Burzynski, was crowned May 31, during the rodeo by 2024 Fair Queen, Cyleigh Mancuso. Haylee is the daughter of Blake and Stephanie Burzynski. First runner up was Grace Benton, daughter of Carter and Dr. Jaime Benton and second runner-up was Jillian Wisnoski, daughter of Stephen and Meg Wisnoski. All three young ladies attend Anderson-Shiro High School.

Thursday, May 15, we heard Pastor Selle share some of his memories of Dorothy. He said if he asked people to come up and share stories, everyone would be there for a long time. Those present, especially the White Hall group, were enjoying his definition of her and yes, we could have shared many more stories.

Celebrate Juneteenth in Navasota, Saturday, June 21, for a special Juneteenth celebration at the Sounds of Navasota Concert Series featuring Zydeco Joseph & The H-Town Players. Music begins at 7:30 p.m. on the lawn of Navasota City Hall. Food trucks and drink vendors are available. Bring lawn chairs and coolers. The family–friendly event includes waterslides, inflatables, face painting and more.

The monthly food distribution at the Iola Missionary Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, May 17, was well attended. There were 84 people that showed up for food, including five new people. Food distributed will feed 217 people. All sorts of food was distributed including canned goods, eggs, frozen goods, fresh vegetables, milk and more. The pantry is open the third Saturday each month. Workers help set up the pantry the day before. Evergreen Baptist Church assisted. All assistance is welcomed and appreciated.

A few weeks back I joined some family members for a weekend at the lake house. Here’s how I saw it. The owner and host of our get-together is a close friend of my brother-in-law (I don’t call him by his name, just “number one” because he is such a great guy) and I had spent some time at the host’s hunting camp many years ago. The camp was much more than I expected – it was spacious, fairly well kept, and it suited our needs at the time. The lake house was nothing like that.
