The reception for my upcoming birthday was fun. The weather turned out somewhat less special and kept some of my guests at home, but it was good to celebrate because I can still have another celebration on my actual day. As many of you know, I have worked for St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Churches as the Parish Secretary since August 2007. Around July or August of this year I began to think about retiring and finally decided to bite the bullet and do it. It will be a bittersweet day Dec. 31 when I finish my last day of work as the Parish Secretary of both churches because I love my job and all the people and friends I have met along this journey or already knew.

COVID-19 testing is being offered at the Bedias Civic Center Dec. 16 and 17 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and testing will continue Monday, Dec. 21 to Wednesday, Dec.23 and again on Monday, Dec. 28 to Wednesday, Dec 30, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. No appointment is needed for the cheek-swab test. You are requested to stay in your car for the drive thru testing. There is no charge, but please bring photo ID.

The WHCVFD had a good first Saturday BBQ sale. The weather was chilly but awesome. The food was good and warm, and the customers were very loyal to come and help support the needs of our department. Thank you to everyone who came out and supported us.

Area friends of Dexter Lavender gathered at the Keith Community Center to celebrate his 70th birthday Saturday, Dec. 5 which is his actual birthday. There were approximately 50 people, both family members and friends gathered to wish him well. The food consisted of fried fish, fries, hushpuppies, beans, potato salad and lots of other good eats. His wife Mary baked a delicious birthday cake and other desserts were served. Everyone had a wonderful time. He is the son of the late Herbert and Myrtle Lavender.

May you never be too grown up to search the skies on Christmas Eve. Almost weekly my family takes a peek at the night sky because we love looking at the stars. We love to instill in our daughters the wonder of the night sky and how something so beautiful and wonderous can just appear.
