Read moreThis week has been crazy to say the least. I don’t even know what events to report or which ones that have been canceled. It is just my opinion that this Coronavirus situation has been blown way out of proportion. Everyone needs to use common sense and just do what you would normally due to prevent a flu or virus. It’s also the time of year that pollen is falling, and allergies are flaring. We can’t win for losing! Working as a church secretary, my phones rang off the wall the last half of the week. The Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston informed the parishes to also use common sense. If you are sick or your immune system is down, by all means just stay home. You will not be “punished” if you don’t attend Mass or go to a church service. Don’t take the chance of being exposed to any kind of flu or virus or exposing others. Hopefully this situation will pass soon, and things will get back to our normal way of living each day.

Read moreThe memorial service for Edward Ray Pointer, Sr. that was held at the Evergreen Baptist Church Saturday, March 7, was certainly well attended. The church was filled with both family members and friends that spoke about his life while a slideshow played in the background with pictures of him and his family. Later that day his ashes were taken to the Pankey Cemetery. Ray was a 1968 graduate of Iola High School. Please remember his wife Martha and family in your prayers.

Our quality of air is not real good right now. We have rain chances and if it rains this will help to clear all the lingering smoke out of our area. For those of us who have smoke allergies, a nice rain would be welcome!
Read moreThe Whitehall VFD had a great day at the first Saturday Barbeque sale. We sold all 200 buns we had plus many pounds sold which left us with nothing remaining around 1:30 p.m. Thanks to all the regular customers and all the new ones that dropped by to visit. My funny was when these two ladies came in with three boys. I could tell that one was older and that the other two were twins, so I asked if they were twins and they were shaking their heads. When I asked their names, those little four-year-old twins swapped names and then just giggled. They were so happy when Carol gave them each a fire helmet to take home.
