The Evergreen Baptist Church Fish Fry assisting children with funds for church camp was certainly a success. The event was held Saturday, April 23, at the Iola VFD. Approximately 175 people were served, raising a good amount of money. Fish with all the works along with desserts and baked goods were served. Thanks to everyone that assisted and purchased plates.

Read moreThe Sunrise Service at Zion Cemetery Sunday, April 17, was well attended despite drizzly weather. The service was conducted by Rev. Darren Ely of King Oaks Church. A special part of the service is when his wife and several of their children quoted a long scripture that was part of the sermon. Following the service, breakfast consisting of eggs, sausage, biscuits, gravy and drinks was served at Zion United Methodist Church.

The High School theater team will perform “The Tell-Tale Heart” which will also serve as their one and only fundraiser. The one act play team is led by Joelle Dulaney, a 17-year veteran staff member of RISD.
Read moreThe Ag Booster Club of Anderson-Shiro is hosting their annual dinner, auction and dance Saturday, April 30, at the Grimes County Expo Center. A barbecue dinner and silent auction will be held from 6-8 p.m. with the live auction beginning at 7 p.m. Main items for the live auction are items built by the Ag students themselves. A dance with music provided by the Texas Unlimited Band will begin after the live auction and lasts until midnight. Cost to get in is $15 per person or a table of eight for $100. Bring your own bottle. For tickets contact Kari Lynn Eisenman, 936- 825-5311. Although tickets are requested to be purchased in advance, so the organization can be sure there is enough food for all, you can also purchase your tickets at the door that evening.

Read moreI want to thank all the people in communities for collecting plastic caps for the VFW Auxiliary. We delivered the caps up to the March 31 deadline. I appreciate those who support the efforts of District 19. We are 17th in making benches for homeless veterans. Once I learn final results, I will let you know.
