There is a burn ban in effect for Grimes County. I traveled to Nashville, Tennessee and they are experiencing the same heat. Their heat doesn’t have high humidity. Stay cool, check on your neighbors, take your trash to the dump etc.

Extreme temps and continued dry weather make the perfect soup for a burn ban imposed in our area. With large grassy and wooded areas, our county is prime real estate for fires, so be smart and follow the ban in place.

The Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center continues to face a critical shortage of blood and blood products. Over 1,000 units are needed each day to meet the needs of patients in southeast Texas. To help meet this need, the Knights of Columbus Council 4054 will host a blood drive Sunday, June 26 in the St. Stanislaus Parish Hall in Anderson from 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Please sign-up and donate if you are able to at www.commitforlife.org. Enter group code STKR. A pancake breakfast will also be provided that morning so come out and enjoy. The next blood drive will take place Sunday, Aug. 21.

The White Hall Community VFD fundraiser last Saturday was a bit slow. I’m not sure where the customers were but I would like to thank all the loyal people who always come to support our fundraiser. Next month we will have the BBQ sandwiches on July 2. Iola Food Pantry will be open Saturday, June 18, at Iola Missionary Baptist Church Fellowship Hall from 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. Anyone in need of a helping hand are invited to come out and receive assistance. You never know what all will be available. Also, the day before, around noon, the pantry will be open to prepare for distribution. Come out and assist either or both days.
