Read moreIt was a good weekend for Grimes County VFW Post 4006. They hosted the third quarterly District 17 meeting. I’m not sure how many people attended, but I appreciate all the people who came. The Katy group arrived on their bus. When we go to meetings I depend on my good friend, Brenda Storey, to be my Uber driver.
Read moreArea Keith residents were sorry to learn of the death of Joyce Elaine Lorance who passed away Feb. 6, at the age of 82. She was born July 10, 1942. She was the wife of Glenn Lorance who survives her. Many friends and family loved her. She and her husband were members of Iola Missionary Baptist Church. Her visitation was held at the Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station Feb. 13. The funeral was held Thursday, Feb. 13, and burial was Feb. 18, at Central State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen. A meal was served following the service at Keith Community Center. Remember her husband Glenn and other family members in your prayers.

Read moreAmerican Legion Elvis Tribute fundraiser was fun. Janis, Dennis and I sat together and laughed the entire time. I don’t think Dennis knows how to handle us two women. Elvis was moving and shaking but we just sat and observed. Commander DeGeorge and wife, Carol, danced. I asked Kenny Graves if he could move like that. He said, “Yes, if a bee is chasing me or I run into a spider web.” Frank from the Post Office and his wife were moving to the music. Most people know Frank so that is another hint of why we were always laughing, too.

Read moreThe monthly food pantry at Iola Missionary Baptist Church will be open Saturday, Dec. 15, from 9–11 a.m. All those in need are welcome to attend and receive assistance. All sort of good food will be available including frozen meat, eggs, vegetables and other items. Volunteers are also welcome to assist in setting up the pantry the day before around noon and the day of for distribution.
