Navasota Grimes County Chamber of Commerce took the first step to bring Blues music back to Navasota. The Reds Wheats and Blues Festival, Nov. 11, at the Grimes County VFW celebrated Blues music with an array of bands including a farewell concert from local legend, Tubee and the Touchtones. Also participating in the inaugural concert was local musician Randy Pavlock and his band Twenty Four Seven, Cari Hudson and Good Company from Austin and headliner Shinyribs, also from Austin. A committee is being formed to plan the festival next year with an emphasis on various styles of Blues music.

At the Wednesday, Nov. 1 Regular Meeting of Grimes County Commissioners Court, Grimes County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Martha Smith advised commissioners of the department’s plans to assist Richards ISD with SRO (School Resource Officer) coverage. House Bill 3, passed during the 88th Texas Legislative Session requiring school districts to have armed security at every campus, has many schools scrambling for funds and Richards ISD no exception.

TODD MISSION — A Sunday afternoon wreck in Todd Mission sent five people to the hospital. The Nov. 5, accident happened around 4:42 p.m. on FM 1774 near Mill Creek Drive. Department of Public Safety Sgt. Justin Ruiz said the preliminary investigation indicates a 2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer was traveling northbound. A 2015 Toyota Corolla traveling southbound failed to drive in a single lane and entered the northbound lane, striking the Chevrolet head-on.
