The Grimes County Republican Women will hear from Toni Anne Dashiell, RNC National Committeewoman for Texas Tuesday, Nov. 21. Dashiell has been active in politics, grassroots advocacy and leadership training for more than 50 years. Throughout her extensive career, she has made a significant impact on the Republican Party, empowering leaders and shaping political organizations. She was awarded the 2009 Ronald Reagan Leadership Award by the National Federation of Republican Women for her distinctive term as the President of the Texas Federation of Republican Women.

SHIRO — Shiro Volunteer Fire Department is planning a derailment exercise Saturday, Nov. 18, to coordinate mock responses to a major disaster. The plans were announced during the Nov. 9, Shiro Town Hall meeting. Shiro VFD Chief Dan Sharron said the exercise is planned from 8 a.m. until noon. He encourages other departments, law enforcement, first responders and more to participate, stating a joint effort is needed when responding to a disaster of that magnitude. He also encourages the community to come witness the training.

Navasota resident Imogene Blue turns 100 years old in December and epitomizes the citizen who understands the privilege of voting and the responsibility to do so. She was one of the 400-plus who voted in the Constitutional Amendment Election at the Navasota Center Tuesday, Nov. 7.

The Town of Anderson presented their Inaugural “Voice for our Vets” concert Nov. 10, at the American Legion Hall in Anderson. The concert to honor veterans featured music from local musician, Hannah Abraham, and the Gumbo Troubador, Ray Cashman, who played his style of Cajun Blues.

At the Oct. 23 Navasota City Council Meeting, Mayor Bert Miller issued a proclamation recognizing Nov. 6-10 as Municipal Court Week. The Proclamation pointed out that “more people come in contact with municipal courts than all other Texas courts combined and public impression of the Texas judicial system is largely dependent upon the public’s experience in municipal court.”

Members of the Navasota ISD Elementary Honor Choir amazed the crowd with their performance at the historic Brosig Performing Arts Center Nov. 6. The Honor Choir features students from all three NISD Elementary campuses, John C. Webb, Brosig and Highpoint. The singers closed with a rendition of the popular Beetles’ hit, “Yellow Submarine.”

Iola ISD National Honor Society hosted their annual Veterans Parade Nov. 9. The parade featured the Iola Marching Band, cheerleaders, color guard, and more. Veterans drive in the parade and are cheered by students lined on the parade route waving flags and holding signs.
