There were numerous postings on Facebook regarding fires in our county. Now is not the time to try to burn trash. I was worried about my oldest grandson and called to see if his house was anywhere near the fires. Thankfully, he was okay. He told me he saw one of the fires and stopped to assist others who were volunteering prior to the arrival of fire departments. He pulled his pressure washer off the work truck; folks were getting hoses and hooking up to keep the fire contained as best as they could. Unfortunately, he did see the house and barns burn.
Read moreAs many of you know Rocky Weller died April 30. Rocky was a familiar face in Anderson and the surrounding area. He worked at the grocery store here in town back in the day and Kott’s Café for many years. A Memorial service will be held for Rocky Saturday, July 30 at 11 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church Hall in Anderson. Presiding at the service will be former Zion Lutheran Pastor Kermit Bostelman. A light lunch in the hall will immediately follow the service. So, there will be plenty of food for everyone, if you plan to attend please let Terry Licce know by calling or texting her, 936-661-5919.
Read moreOn the evening of Saturday, July 16, I got a call that terribly saddened my heart. The Town of Anderson lost a great man with the passing of F.D. Calhoun, at the age of 87. At one time, the Town of Anderson was an incorporated town from April 2, 1983 to April 7, 1984. F.D. served as Mayor of Anderson during that time. The Town of Anderson was re-incorporated in January of 1995 when John Freeman was elected Mayor and F.D. served as an Alderman under him until Mr. Freeman stepped down in 2003.
Read moreThe Installation of officers of Orphans Friends Masonic Lodge No 17 was held Saturday, July 9, at their lodge hall in Anderson with a good number attending. Some of the previous officers remained but several were first time officers. Following the ceremony, a meal was served. Everyone had a great time.
