Sunday worship at Salem was exciting. The Holy Cross Lutheran youth were at Camp Allen for the weekend and decided to come to our church as part of their weekend. Since we have few youth, seeing this large group of children (young adults) sitting in the pews was a fantastic way to start my week. Thanks for worshipping with us.

Census, Solomon Rubenstein along with his wife and seven children came to live in Millican, a short distance north of Navasota along the railroad line. The census record shows that Rubenstein, a store clerk, was an immigrant born in Russia, while his wife and all seven children were born in England.
Read moreIola Food Pantry, held at the Iola Missionary Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, was open Saturday, Jan. 15, on a cold and windy day. There was a good number of workers present to give out a variety of food to approximately 40 people and families in the Iola area. Items given out included watermelon, grapefruit, bread and canned goods. Anyone who needs a helping hand can come to the pantry the third Saturday of the month. They will be open Saturday, Feb. 19, from 9-11 a.m. Everyone is welcome.
