Geranium carolinianum, cranesbill or Carolina geranium, is a cool season North American native. It can be annual or biennial, taking two years to complete its lifecycle. It has pink to red erect to semi-erect stems that are 8 to 16 inches tall. Fine hairs cover the whole plant except for the flowers. The deeply dissected leaves are palmate, shaped like the palm of a hand and may be opposite or alternate. There is sometimes a deep red to brown trim along their edge. In southeast Texas, leaves are seen in early to mid-winter. Pieces of the stem and leaves mixed in soil control some organisms that are harmful to certain crops.

The Sonshine Sisters had seven members present including Mrs. Pauline and Margie who missed several times due to medical reasons. Sandra Lazrine was Aunt Pauline’s driver and Mrs. Beth stopped by prior to her appointment. It was a blessed day with lots of laughs, eye rolling and several “smart” comments. It was relaxing, and we all love picking on each other without anyone getting their feelings hurt. I look forward to the third Thursday not just for playing dominoes but the fellowship that accompanies it.

Read moreArea residents were sorry to learn of the death of Vicki Crenshaw Crawford who passed away Tuesday, Feb. 8. Her funeral service was held at Lindley Robertson Holt Funeral Home in Navasota Wednesday, Feb. 16. She was buried in Evergreen Cemetery. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Lee Crawford, who passed away Oct. 23, 2018 and by her parents, Mackree “Mac” and Alice Marie Hutchins Crenshaw, all of whom are also buried in Evergreen Cemetery. Do remember all of her family members in your prayers.

The service was supposed to be held in the Concord Cemetery, but due to bad weather it was changed. Brother Matt Carey was the minister in charge of the service. Days Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral.
