The monthly meeting of Keith Civic Club was held Thursday, June 22, with a small number in attendance. The meeting began with a covered dish meal that was enjoyed by all present. The meeting had a variety of business discussed and acted upon. The main item discussed was work that needs to be done inside the building. Bids will be received and acted on.

Officers were installed at the June 17, meeting of the Iola North Zulch Order of the Eastern Star No. 458 held at the Pyramid Masonic Lodge. All 18 officers were installed before a full house. The Worthy Matron is Roberta Pugh, and the Worthy Patron is Mike Cohen. Two members were initiated in the installation. They were David and Susan Rice. Prior to the meeting a meal with all sorts of good eats was enjoyed by all.

I hope everyone had a good Father’s Day because I did. My son-in-law Chuck cooked for us and I sure did accept the invite to come on over! Don’t forget FREE Bingo beginning at 5:30 p.m. each Tuesday at Grimes County VFW Post 4006. Everyone gets a free card and extra cards are available for a small price. In addition, Chef Jim cooks that night, too. He may have hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken salad sandwiches with French fries or chips.

Temperatures are starting to heat up. Don’t forget to check on your neighbors, family and friends. Grimes County 4-H is having a one-day camp July 8, at the Grimes County Extension office, 205 Veterans Memorial Drive in Navasota from 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. Camp is for ages 5-18 and is $10 per child. Iola Cemetery Association will hold their annual meeting Saturday, June 24, at Zion Methodist Church beginning at 11 a.m. The Association maintains Zion and Enon Cemeteries in Iola. A variety of business will be handled. Anyone with family members buried in these cemeteries are invited to attend. Hope to see you there.
