Food pantry helps 85 families
Officers were installed at the June 17, meeting of the Iola North Zulch Order of the Eastern Star No. 458 held at the Pyramid Masonic Lodge. All 18 officers were installed before a full house. The Worthy Matron is Roberta Pugh, and the Worthy Patron is Mike Cohen. Two members were initiated in the installation. They were David and Susan Rice. Prior to the meeting a meal with all sorts of good eats was enjoyed by all.
All area residents enjoyed Father’s Day at their churches. Fathers were recognized and presented with a variety of gifts.
Monthly game night at the home of Chip and Trish Mosier was held Thursday, June 15, with a good number of people attending. A variety of good food and games were brought and enjoyed by all.
The monthly meeting of Orphans Friend Masonic Lodge No. 17 is Monday, July 3. The meeting will begin with a covered dish meal at 6 p.m. followed by the business meeting. All Masons are invited to attend.
Bedias Masonic Lodge No. 458 will not have a July monthly meeting due to the first Tuesday falling on Independence Day. There will be an installation of officers at the lodge hall Saturday, July 8, at 10 a.m. Do hope all Masons will make plans to attend.
Pyramid Masonic Lodge No 593 held their monthly meeting at their lodge hall in North Zulch June 20, beginning with a covered dish meal. The meeting was well attended with members and visitors. During the business meeting the election of officers was held. Those men will be installed at next month’s meeting.
There was good attendance at the Iola Food Pantry on June 17. A total of 85 families (222 people) received assistance. The pantry is open the third Saturday of the month from 9-11 a.m. at the Iola Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. The pantry is open for anyone in need of a helping hand.
Area residents were sorry to learn of the death of Wanda Lanette Matthews who passed away June 14, at age 86. She was born Feb. 18, 1937 to Bedforn Sharp and Gracie Stanley Sharp who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband Leonard Ray Matthews and other family members. Her funeral service was held at Madisonville Funeral Home June 20. A meal was served at Iola Community Center following the service. Her burial was at Lake Grove Cemetery in the Mesa Community where other family members are buried. Do remember her loved ones in your prayers.
