Orphans Friend Masonic Lodge No 17 will meet Monday, March 6, at their lodge hall in Anderson. The meeting will begin with a meal at 6 p.m. Bedias Masonic Lodge will meet Tuesday, March 7, beginning with a covered dish meal at 6:30 p.m. All members of the Masonic Lodge are invited to attend.

Amanda Sechelski, a second-grade teacher at Anderson-Shiro Elementary, is also the sponsor of the Kindness Club. Amanda and her students in the club thank everyone who donated new and gently used winter clothing items to their clothing drive that was held before Christmas break. They had an abundance of donations come in and were able to help over 60 people in our community stay warm. They appreciate everyone
for spreading kindness and warmth during the holiday season!

Hopefully Valentine’s Day was good for everyone. I was surprised with a dozen violet color roses from the sweetest little 17-month-old boy. He actually came and handed them to me.
The next few months are packed with several fish fry gatherings throughout the county. As a reminder, Salem Lutheran Church will be hosting their annual gathering Friday, March 24, at the White Hall Community Center. We will begin at 5:30 p.m. with food available for dine in or take out. Tickets are available from any member of the church. Hope to see you there.

Area residents were sorry to learn of the death of Rev. Bill Gene Adkisson who passed away Saturday, Feb. 11, at age 84. He was formerly the Pastor of Evergreen Free Will Baptist Church – which is now Evergreen Baptist Church. Adkisson was born July 3, 1938 to Rudolph and Alice Adkisson. He married Peggy Marshall and they spent many years of happiness together until she passed away Feb. 27, 2016. After they returned to Missouri, he was the Pastor of Evergreen for 7 years, from 1997-2004. They were owners of First Storage Facility in Iola until they moved away. His funeral was held Wednesday, Feb. 15. His burial was in the IOOF Cemetery in Charleston, MO. Do remember his children and other family members in your prayers.

We have written before about Brigadier General James W. Barnes, a native of Georgia who came to Texas in 1840. He established a 900 plus acre plantation a short distance southeast of Fanthorp, now Anderson. Barnes wore many hats and served as Brigadier General of the Confederate Army’s Texas Home Guards.

Knights of Columbus Council #4054 is busy as usual. They held a blood drive and pancake breakfast Sunday at St. Stanislaus. The next blood drive is scheduled for April 16. January’s Knight of the Month was Jarl Renn and the Family of the Month was Blake and Jennifer Scholz. This organization is getting ready for their annual Lenten Fish Frys. The first one will be held at St. Mary’s Parish Hall in Plantersville; the next at St. Joseph’s Parish Hall in Stoneham; and the last one will be held at KC Hall in Anderson. All events begin at 5 p.m. Price of plates will be $15 each and $10 for children under 12.
