Each year after St. Joseph’s bazaar in Stoneham, I include the winners of the raffle. Because of Memorial Day, I had to send my news in early, so I planned to put them in the following weeks news. Well, that didn’t happen, and it was brought to my attention by members of that parish. Better late than never.

Navasota VFW is celebrating Flag Day Wednesday, June 14, from 6-8 p.m. There will be a presentation about the American flag and an American flag retirement ceremony. Because of the Fair going on the second Thursday this month, the Grimes County Mobile Food Bank will be open this Thursday, June 15 from 9:30-10:45 a.m. in the back-parking lot of the Grimes County Fairgrounds in Navasota. Any resident of Grimes County will be served and will only need to show their driver’s license when they complete the once-a-year Client Assistant Intake form. Well folks it’s once again time for area Vacation Bible Schools. Iola Missionary Baptist Church will host VBS June 18-22 beginning at 6 p.m. The following week, June 25-29, Cross Baptist Church will host VBS beginning at 6 p.m. Evergreen Baptist Church VBS is July 16-19 beginning at 6:30 p.m. Do hope all kids will make plans to attend.

Friday night, I had the opportunity to give the last of the Janice Trant ScholarshipAwards to Bailey Rhodes of Richards High School. Thanks to all the donations to the Grimes County VFW Post 4006 Auxiliary, we were able to give one scholarship last year and four this year - one to each county school. The Auxiliary appreciates all the generosity in Janice’s honor.

The big news this week is Iola High School graduation that took place May 27, in the gym with a full crowd seniors and others. There were 35 seniors present who definitely had a good time. A few days before, a baccalaureate service was held at Cross Baptist Church with 22 seniors present as well. Bibles were given to each graduate and refreshments were served at the service.
