I had planned to move out of the Town of Anderson in July 2019, so after 16 years of being Mayor, I did not run again in the May 2019 election. One of my alderwomen, Karen McDuffie stepped up to the plate to become Mayor of Anderson. After serving 4 years, Karen decided not to run again this year. One of her aldermen, Marc Benton, threw his name in the hat with no opposition.

Read moreThe monthly food pantry at Iola Missionary Baptist Church Fellowship Hall will be open Saturday, May 20, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Anyone in need of a helping hand, are invited to attended. Volunteers are needed the day before around noon to help set up the pantry. Baccalaureate service for Iola High School students is Wednesday, May 24, at Cross Baptist Church beginning at 6 p.m. Many Iola churches will dismiss their service for this event. Graduation is Saturday, May 27, at 10 a.m. in the Iola High School Gym.

Read moreThis week has flown by so quickly and I don’t have many notes of news to share. I know one thing, having a medical procedure for me can be a challenge for nurses. Friday was one of those days. It took four nurses and six sticks to get an IV in me. Almost a week later, I still have the proof! They finally found a vein at the very top of my arm, near my shoulder, closer to my armpit. I still have those markings too. I think I set a record for the hospital! Afterwards, the doctor told Kacie that I was good this time.
