On Feb. 26, Grimes County Commissioners Court recognized the nomination of Sgt. Guadalupe Santana by the Navasota Elks Lodge #2888 for the Enrique S. Camarena Award. For more than 30 years, the Elks have presented the award to a member of law enforcement “who best exemplifies the qualities and principles for which Agent Camarena gave his life.”

Navasota High School Ag Mech students earned blue ribbons on five of their six projects at the San Antonio Stock Show. Mason Sauer won second place in Class 102 and made the top 3 welders list. Tate Shaw, Adolfo Estrada, Emmanuel Estrada, and Garrett Solomon won the Chairman’s Award.

Navasota ISD hosted the annual Grimes County Spelling Bee Feb. 20, at the Brosig Performing Arts Center. There were 14 participants from across the county. Three Navasota students earned top honors including champion, Naomi Suarez (Navasota Junior High); 2nd place, Deborah Suara (Brule Elementary); and 3rd place, Jose Corona (Brule Elementary). Suarez qualified for the Regional Spelling Bee to be held at Houston Community College on March 22.
