The 20th Texas Silwill ver-Haired Legislature (TSHL) convened at the State Capitol for their 20th Legislative Session, May 5 9. Sixty-four delegates from 28 Area Agencies on Aging (AAA) Regions in Texas were in attendance. Speaker Sherry Hubbard gaveled the assembly to order on Monday May 6, to begin the process of passing resolutions that will be compiled in the TSHL 20th Legislative Report. Connie Clements and David Hackethorn attended as legislators representing the Brazos Valley AAA Region.

The community lined the streets as local law enforcement officers, and first responders carried the “Flame of Hope” through Navasota to honor Special Olympic athletes. Special Olympics is the largest sports organization for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Over 5 million athletes in 172 countries participate.

Anderson–Shiro fourth grade students competed in their annual “Lemonade Wars.” Students competed for bragging rights with T–Dogs earning the top lemonade stand. T–Dog raised $388.25. Overall, $1,100 was raised and donated to the Grimes County Animal Rescue in Anderson.
