The community packed the lawn of Navasota City Hall June 14, for the kickoff of the annual Sounds of Summer free concert series hosted by the City of Navasota. Festivities included water slides, food vendors and face painting. The Texas Eagles Band kicked off the first of three concerts. Mangopunch takes the stage July 19 followed by the Brown Sugar Band Aug. 9.

Country music artist, Chris Chitsey, had a private release for his music video “Every Small Town” at Navasota City Hall June 11. The video was partially filmed high above Navasota on the water tower. Chitsey climbed the tower for the filming.

The Navasota Planning and Zoning Commission and Navasota City Council held a joint workshop June 13 to discuss a proposed townhome development on the city’s west side. In 2023, Grimes County listed approximately 7 acres for sale out of the 14.985-acre tract it owns at 203 Veterans Memorial Drive, behind the Grimes County Annex and the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office. According to City Manager Jason Weeks, the joint workshop will give the developer an idea of requirements and obstacles the group perceives that he needs to address in order for him to decide if he’ll move forward with the project.
