There was a special benefit fundraiser April 22, at Iola Community Center for Paul Dodds who needs a kidney transplant. A good amount of money was raised from the sale of pulled pork sandwiches and cake. Thanks to all those that assisted in any way.

The weather turned out cool to begin with but warmer as the day went on. Thanks to the guys who come out really early in the morning and get those pits going. The food was good. These functions take many members, hours of planning and I personally appreciate those who made it happen. It was a good day. I stayed busy and I managed to get a bit of sunburn.

Read moreEvergreen Baptist Church fish fry and silent auction April 15 was certainly a success. The event brought out a good number of people from the area. There was lots of good fish with all the trimmings and desserts. Great items were also auctioned. Approximately $8,000 was raised to help youth of Evergreen go to summer camp. Thanks to all that participated in any way.

Kay Harris and Trisha Tate Harris, a White Hall resident, lead these efforts to honor people affected by cancer. I have said many times but seeing all the luminaire bags with names of people that I knew and the survivors that I know can be sad. However, when you see those bags lit up after dark, it is a beautiful sight.
