Well, on the way home from work my son Clint called to say that M’Beaux's was going to be open for a special Christmas event and did we want to meet them there for supper. In Mexico they’re called farolitos, little lanterns. These names refer to the 1-inch papery balloon or lantern-like puffy hollow fruits or pods, first green and then brown. Inside are three sections, each with one black seed that has a white spot in the shape of a heart. Cardiospermum is the combination of the Latin words cardio, meaning heart, and sperma, meaning seed. Sometimes the white mark on the seed looks more like the yin-yang symbol. Fragrant white flowers are small with four petals. The plant is a thin vine, up to 10 feet. Leaves consist of three leaflets and each of those have three leaflets. In warm areas such as Grimes County, balloon vine is a perermiaL On the same vine may be flowers and green and brown pods.

If you were around the Grimes County area for Halloween you saw tons of witches, ghouls, goblins, first responders, and a dinosaur wrangler running around the streets of Richards and Anderson. Our little trick or treaters were able to visit Main Street Richards for their Halloween event and grabbed some goodies and books. Huge shout out to the Richards Civic Club and Richards Volunteer Fire Department for their smiles and willingness to not let 2020 spoil the Halloween fun every Richards community member deserves!
