Hope your Christmas was merry and bright, and your New Year will be full of blessings! It really has been a Hallmark kind of a year!

Our Christmas and New Year was very special. Most of our family gathered the week before Christmas when my brother Ronnie McMahan and his wife, and my nephew Ron and his wife Cheryl, along with nieces Ronnette, and Cheri all came together for a gathering.

They all joined us at First Baptist Church in Navasota as three of my grandchildren where among the many that were in the Christmas program. As always it was a beautiful program. We all enjoyed it and had a wonderful meal together afterwards. Then we gathered at my daughter Jenna and son-in-law James Blair’s home. There was so much fun and laughter!

Later some of the family attended my great niece’s birthday party in Navasota, as Olivia Otto turned one. Happy Birthday Olivia!

We attended another Christmas program in Bryan where we watched our daughter Shanna’s children.

Lee and I celebrated another anniversary Dec. 21. We took off a few days early for a getaway at the Riverwalk. We usually never get to celebrate on our anniversary week because it’s so close to Christmas. We had a wonderful time and returned in time for our family Christmas on Dec.

22. All our children were together for our family Christmas. It was such a blessing!

On Christmas Eve Lee and I and attended a Candlelight service at Harding Country Church in Huntsville. It was a beautiful candlelight service and my son Payton told the Christmas story. My son-in-law Will Shreve and my Granddaughter Faith Shreve led the singing! It was beautiful. Afterwards we enjoyed refreshments. It reminded me so much of when I was a little girl and the Christmas’ at our little country church. It was a true Hallmark Christmas in every way. Then to make it more special our families sang Christmas Carols to some of the folks who could not get out and were home on Christmas Eve.

Beverly Ann Montgomery went to be with her Lord and Savior Dec. 16. She is survived by her husband Dr. Robin Montgomery of Richards. Beverly was the mother of four children, twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Please keep this family in your prayers.

Richards residents turned out last week to honor San Jacinto County Deputy Bryan Pfluger on his final ride to his resting place. Hundreds attended a memorial service for Pfluger on Friday. He was killed in a crash while responding to a burglary in progress in Coldspring. A procession left the Pace Stancil Funeral Home in Cleveland for the trip to Pflugerville Texas, for the funeral and burial. The public was encouraged to honor him as the procession traveled across Texas to his final resting place in Pflugerville Texas. Please keep Deputy Bryan Pfluger’s family, coworkers, and friends all in your prayers.

Grimes County has many law enforcement officers that put their lives on the line every day. Many officers, volunteers, firemen, linesmen and others. Thanks to all of you that work all hours of the night and work to help make our community a safe place to live. You are so appreciated!

Deepest sympathy to the family of Verna M Sechelski, 90, of Anderson. Verna passed away on Dec. 25, in Bryan. Verna attended Richards school. Please remember her family and friends in your prayers.
