Shelton Eppler has been recognized for his football play.

The Navasota High School graduate was named Nov. 18 as the Southland Conference offensive player of the week.

The senior became the first Northwestern State University of Louisiana quarterback to throw for 3,000 yards in a season. He completed 26 of 42 pass attempts for 308 yards in leading the team to an upset victory over Sam Houston State.

Eppler tossed touchdowns of 1 and 67 yards and ran for a 5-yard touchdown, his first of the season. He rushed 10 times for 31 yards.

He added to his school records for all-time touchdown passes and pass attempts.

As of Thursday, he ranked second in the conference in passing yards per game and total offense per game. He tied for second in touchdown passes.

More football

University of the Incarnate Word running back Keyondrick Philio carried four times for 15 yards against New Mexico State. The Navasota product scored on a 1-yard run.

Former Rattler Jordan Wells made five tackles for Tarleton State University against Western New Mexico. The defensive lineman had two quarterback hurries in helping the team complete the regular season with an 11-0 record.

Offensive lineman Andrew Seaback played in the opener for Stephen F. Austin State University. The Anderson-Shiro High graduate is no longer listed on the roster.

Men’s basketball

Jabril Hunter had nine points in a start for Wilberforce University against West Virginia Tech. The past Rattler had three rebounds, two steals and one blocked shot.

Trajan Wesley had three assists for University of Louisiana at Lafayette against Youngstown State. The Navasota resident added two points and one rebound.

Women’s basketball

Keaundra Eddings of Blinn College had a season-high 17 points against Northeast Lakeview. The Navasota alumna led the team with six steals and had three rebounds and three assists.

McMurry University freshman D’Asia White had three assists and three points against Nebraska Wesleyan. Out of Anderson-Shiro, she also had one rebound in the start.
