LUCY M. THOMPSON

Lucy Mae Cascio Thompson, 91, of Navasota, died Saturday morning, April 27, 2019, at Hospice Brazos Valley Inpatient Facility in Bryan.

A gathering of family and friends took place from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. Mon., April 29, at Christ Our Light Catholic Church. A parish rosary led by the Altar Society was recited at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass was celebrated 11:00 a.m. Tues., April 30, at Christ Our Light Catholic Church with Rev. Msgr. Adam S. McClosky as the celebrant. The rite of committal was in Decker Prairie Cemetery in Tomball.

Serving as pallbearers were Justin Orlando, Dan Simpton, Frank Campagna, John Kopeck, Tim Highley and Jay Ferrell. Named as honorary pallbearers were Dean Thompson and Billy Scott.

Lucy was born on January 5, 1928 in Houston to Jake and Ethel Stowe Cascio. She attended Holy Name Catholic Church and received all of her sacraments there. It was on April 12, 1944 at Holy Name that she married Monty C. Thompson. In 1947, she earned her beautician License. Lucy described her proudest moment was the birth of her daughter, Martha Ann. The family settled in Decker Prairie and she was a very active member with the Catholic Daughters of America and received her 50-year Regent Award. Over the years she attended many of the CDA Conventions as well as travelled to Italy, Alaska and across the United States. Lucy moved to Navasota shortly after her husband’s death in 1998 where she became an active member of Christ Our Light Catholic Church and Altar Society and remained so up until her death. Lucy was an excellent cook and was known for preparing a St. Joseph Altar every year including this year. She also enjoyed sewing and quilting.

Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Monty, and a sister-in-law, Karen Cascio.

Survivors include her daughter, Marti Orlando and husband Buster of Navasota; a brother, Charles William “Bubba” Cascio and wife Judy of Tomball; a step-sister, Karen Grampp of Stillwater, OK; two grandchildren, Jami Simpton and husband Dan and Justin Orlando and wife Mandy; three great grandchildren, Ceily and Miley Simpton and Addison Orlando along with numerous extended family and friends.
