Todd Mission receives CDBG
TODD MISSION – Hurricane Harvey devoured much of Texas and Louisiana in August 2017, inflicting $125 billion in damage with catastrophic rainfall and flooding causing most of the damage locally. In Todd Mission, several high-water rescues were executed, and roads were severely damaged.
Many communities in Grimes County remain in the recovery process including Todd Mission and plans are in the works to reduce the impact of future flooding.
Todd Mission submitted a grant application to the Texas General Land Office’s Hurricane Harvey Local Infrastructure Program and was approved for $167,101 of grant money.
The grant is intended for street improvements, facilitating proper stormwater conveyance, to provide continued street access during rain events and reducing the impact of future flooding.
“We had very specific projects that we could apply for and that was infrastructure damage by Harvey,” explained Todd Mission City Manager Neal Wendele. “We had to identify areas that were impacted by Harvey and make a list of items we wanted to fix.”
Wendele said funds were limited so they worked with an outside engineer to prioritize a list of repairs they wanted to be included in the grant. “We came up with about 1,000 feet of roadway that will be repaired for both drainage and travel,” said Wendele.
Most of the repairs will occur on Renfaire Drive and Wildwood Lane which has a low water crossing that Wendele said washed out severely.
Wendele said he anticipates the repairs associated with the grant to begin in the next few months although he doesn’t have an exact timeline in place yet.
