A 42-year old Hempstead woman was air lifted from the scene of an early morning collision on Texas State Highway 6 North Wednesday, Dec. 18.

A Hempstead woman was trapped inside her vehicle after striking an 18-wheeler Wednesday morning.

First responders were dispatched to Texas State Highway 6 North in front of Hilco Metal Roofing south of Navasota at approximately 8:30 a.m.

Navasota Firefighters worked diligently to free 42-year old Blanca Estela Salinas Munoz from her 2001 Toyota Corolla.

Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Jimmy Morgan stated a 2003 Freightliner, driven by Soluki Alatini was hauling metal roofing supplies and just left Hilco Metal Roofing. He entered the righthand lane of SH-6 northbound and began traveling north.

Munoz, from Hempstead but originally from Shoreline WA., was reportedly traveling northbound on SH-6 and struck the trailer of the Freightliner in the rear as he was picking up speed.

Once Munoz was freed from the vehicle she was airlifted to CHI St. Joseph in Bryan in critical condition.

SH-6 northbound was closed for several hours while the accident was being investigated and the roadway was being cleared.

Morgan said the investigation is ongoing and Munoz’s current condition is unknown.
