County budget to feel health insurance pinch

Grimes County Commissioners chose to bite the bullet rather than increase insurance costs for county employees in the upcoming plan year. At the June 18 meeting, commissioners approved renewing Plan 1100 NG as is, which will increase the county’s annual health insurance premium cost by $232,000 but makes no change to copays or deductibles for the 191 employees currently covered.  At present, medical and dental premiums cost Grimes County $2.5 million per year but the per employee medical premium will increase from $998.12 to $1,089.94, and from $26.66 to $29.14 for dental. Employees are responsible for dependent coverage and ...
