August Programs at the Fanthorp Inn
ANDERSON – The Fanthorp Inn State Historic Site will host two events every month during the summer.
This month join The Inn Aug. 5, for First Friday programing where you can chat with Henry Fanthorp and Aug. 13-14 come out for Focus Weekend on Judge McDonald Jr.
“This month we are covering two of the most influential figures in Grimes County history,” said Chandler Wahrmund, educator at Fanthorp Inn .
Aug. 5, at noon, 4 p.m., and 6 p.m., The Inn will host a special program where guests can interact with the man who started it all, Henry Fanthorp. The program takes place in 1832, when the inn was just a twinkle in Henry’s eye. Hear the story of a young Englishman’s journey to Mexican Texas and his plans for the future.
Then the following weekend, Aug. 13-14, experience special guided tours focusing on Judge James G McDonald Jr, one of the most influential and controversial men in Grimes County history, who happened to live at The Inn from the 1890s to the 1930s. Admission for both events is free and open to the public. Cash donations are appreciated.
Fanthorp Inn State Historic Site, a Texas Historical Commission site, is a stagecoach stop and inn located on Main Street in Anderson. Henry Fanthorp had the inn constructed in 1834 as a home for his wife Rachel Kennard. Notable guests include Henderson K Yoakum, Kenneth Anderson, Dr. Anson Jones, and Sam Houston.
