The WHCVFD had a good first Saturday on Oct. 2. Very little food was left when we shut down thanks to all our dedicated customers. It takes many volunteers to pull this fundraiser off and it is amazing how this group comes together as a team. As a resident of White Hall, I am very thankful for this group!
“My” Mrs. Beth had a procedure last week, so she was not able to come get her sandwich, but she did have a friend who came to get one for her. Now, I can tease her about using “uber eats”.
On Sunday the Salem Lutheran Ladies Group sponsored the LWML rally at church. Since this was my first ever rally, I cannot compare attendance to previous rallies. However, with all going on I do think it was smaller than the norm. Salem served baked potatoes with all the fixings including some VFD chopped beef. The gathering was a great time for devotion, fellowship and meeting new people. Pastor Mayerhoff led the opening and Pastor Eden from Bethel Lutheran in Bryan completed the rally with the closing.
The WHCVFD met Monday for their monthly meeting. I was unable to attend but there were approximately 19 members present.
Did you know that 7D Ranch has their bar open on Friday nights and sometimes have live music? In addition, they have a general store stocked with goodies that is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Mrs. Lynette Frenzel, member of Salem, fell last week and is in the hospital. Allen Fields, my daughters’ dad is also in the hospital. Please keep them in your prayers for a speedy recovery.
If you are a lifetime member of the Grimes VFW Post 4006 Auxiliary, we would love to have you attend some of our meetings. We are gaining a few new members and want to show them more Grimes County hospitality. We join on the third Thursday of each month for a meal and then the meeting.
VFW Post 4006 offers two student awards programs and the SMART Maher teacher contest. The information is shared with the county schools and is also being printed in The Examiner. If interested, visit vfw.org, click on Community, then on Students and Education and follow the prompts to the Patriot’s Pen, Voice of Democracy and the SMART Maher Teacher. Deadline for each of these is midnight, Oct. 31.
The District 17 Auxiliary is still accepting socks for veterans and nursing homes and pull tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. District 19 is collecting plastic caps for benches for the homeless. We appreciate any help you can give us.
WHCVFD station will open at 6 p.m. on Oct. 30, to welcome all the spooks and goblins as we celebrate Halloween. We will be there until 8 p.m. so come and see us.
The City of Plantersville will hold their Halloween event Oct. 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. and veterans and auxiliary members will be there.
Please come and help honor veterans at the Post Veterans Day activities Saturday, Nov. 6. The parade begins at 10 a.m. at the Post followed by a bucket raffle and our standard early raffle. We hope to have some good items. You can register for the parade by calling the Post, 936-825-3666.
FREE Bingo is still being held at Post 4006. Bingo begins at 5:30 p.m. and is usually over around 7:15 p.m. We welcome you to come and join in the fun.
