Support our Anderson VFD
It’s time for the Central Grimes County, Anderson Volunteer Fire Department, to conduct their annual fund drive. This organization depends greatly on success of the drive. They presently operate nine different fire apparatuses used for various situations and currently have 13 active volunteers that serve our area. Thanks to the generous contributions received last year this organization was able to pay off the note on the pumper truck that was purchased in 2020 and attend more training. All funds collected this year will go towards more training and the purchase of a new booster truck which will help them serve our community better.
Anderson VFD is very appreciative of the generosity of our community and continues to further improve the service they provide. If you would like to make a monetary contribution to help support our fire department, send your donation to Anderson VFD, P.O. Box 561, Anderson, TX 77830. If you are interested in joining the VFD, please attend one of the business meetings that are held the third Monday of each month at the fire station in Anderson at 7 p.m. Find out more information by contacting Fire Chief Michael Kimich, 936-870-8776 or President Darrell Dietrich, 936-870-7196.
I periodically like to remind senior citizens of our community that the Grimes County Senior Center, 129 Main St. in Anderson, is open 3 days a week to anyone 60 years of age and older. You can come out Monday, Wednesday and Fridays for a good meal to take part in an assortment of activities as well as just plain old good fellowship. The center is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, call 936-873-2818. If you haven’t stopped by or tried it out, make it a New Year’s Resolution to do so. You’ll be glad you did.
The Grimes County Mobile Food Bank will be open Thursday, Jan. 12 from 9:30-10:45 a.m. in the back-parking lot of the Grimes County Fairgrounds in Navasota. Any resident of Grimes County will be served and will only need to show their driver’s license when they complete the once-a-year Client Assistant Intake form. This Saturday, Jan. 14, visit Fanthorp Inn and discover the secret to brewing a cup of coffee that's "strong enough to bear up an iron wedge.” The staff and volunteers will be roasting grinding and brewing coffee and all of its 19th century alternatives throughout the day. Contact Chandler Wahrmund, Chandler.Wahrmund@thc.texas.gov or 936-878-2214, ext. 250 for more information.
Charlie Pasket has been battling an illness for some time now but was doing much better. Our hopefulness turned to sadness Tuesday, Jan. 3 when he passed away. Charlie is the son of Adam and Tina Pasket, husband of Debbie and father to Russell, Travis and Scott Pasket. I loved and admired Charlie as did so many others. I always knew his age because we shared the same birthday of August 24 – only I was 3 years older. We also shared being the oldest of our siblings. Our deepest sympathy goes out to this loving family.
