Annual New Year’s Eve party
Well, here we are at the beginning of a new year. I wonder how long it will take us to forget to change the date to 2023. Hopefully it won’t take long at all.
In last week’s column I listed the names of those from the Keith area who died in 2022. Hopefully I didn’t forget anyone. If I did please forgive me. May the memory of all that died be forever blessed.
There was a New Year’s Ever party at the home of Mac and Laura McBride. Attendance was low due to sickness and people being out of town. We still had a good time. Everyone enjoyed the fireworks and food. Food included black eyed peas, cabbage and a variety of meat. The McBrides have hosted this celebration for years. Hopefully the tradition will continue.
Fundraising for a new roof for the Keith Community Center is going well. We still need to raise about $3,000. Donations may be mailed to Keith Civic Club, P.O. Box 71, Iola, TX. 77861. May God bless everyone who has donated and those planning to donate.
Keith Civic Club will host their next meeting Jan. 26, at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will begin with a covered dish meal followed by the business meeting. Dues for the new year will be collected. All are invited for the first meeting of the year.
Orphans Friend Masonic Lodge held their monthly meeting at their lodge hall in Anderson. Prior to the meeting there was a meal that was enjoyed by all. Following the meal, a good deal of business was discussed and acted upon. There will be a fundraiser in Anderson soon where the lodge will sell pulled pork sandwiches, chips and a drink. I will let people know more about the fundraiser when it is decided.
I received an inheritance from the family of Lena Mae Jarvis last year. It consisted of Bibles and family photos that went back to my aunt, Anni Vaughn Jarvis and her two sons, Vaughn and Leon Jarvis. There were other things as well. It was good to have them in my family again.
According to my records, the Keith area received 35 inches of rain for the year. The prior year we had 38 inches. Do hope this year will be just as good.
Bedias Masonic Lodge No. 651 was held at their lodge hall with a good number of members and visitors attending. The covered dish meal was enjoyed by all. The business meeting followed.
