Last week I forgot to mention that each year when Don and I go to the Sheriffs’ Association of Texas conference, we always take a silent auction item. We like to take something from our county and this year we asked 17-year-old Landon Jarvis, son of Constable Blake and Aleida Jarvis, to make a special handmade knife for the occasion.

Keith Civic Club held their monthly meeting at Keith Community Center Thursday, July 27, with a fair number attending. Instead of the usual covered dish meal, a delicious meal of homemade ice cream, a variety of sandwiches and other good eats were enjoyed by all. Visitors were Roy Castillo, his wife Kaylee and their son Owen. He is a worker with a company that is going to do some work on the inside of the building. The work will begin soon.

The TSHA Southwestern Historical Quarterly, recently published an article, “The U. S. Army and the Alamo, 1846-1877,” by historian Thomas “Ty” Smith, revealing a post Alamo history that is little known with the U. S. Army reportedly “saving” the Alamo.

Thanks to Susan Brak and other Salem Lutheran volunteers the 2023 VBS which was a huge success. The children were still excited during Sunday service. Maybe Little Man can attend VBS next summer.
