Fun at Freedom Fest
The Freedom Festival Fourth of July parade Friday, July 1, in downtown Navasota, was fun. It was good to see three entries from VFW Post 4006. There was a car for the Children of the American Revolution, a convertible Mustang driven by the Commander with members Steve DuPree and James DeGeorge and a 1962 Austin Heely convertible driven by Nicole Schupe, Secretary of the Auxiliary and her passenger, Carol DeGeorge, Secretary of the Auxiliary.
Nicole invited me to ride but since I made prior plans, I had to turn down the invitation. Anyway, I probably would have gotten stuck in that little machine and would have needed professional services to get out! I know that little man enjoyed the parade and the little patriotic wind wand that someone gave him.
One mother had a remote-control vehicle and a small child in it. Now, that was cute, but I think it gave my granddaughter an idea since we will soon have a one year old! Personally, I like those self-control bumper cars for little people.
I was excited because I ran into Shannon and Rick and their twins in the store and they graciously introduced me to another new couple in our White Hall area. Mark and Karen recently moved to our community. Welcome to White Hall! Hope to see both of you again.
The first Saturday BBQ at the WHCVFD started off slow but then the crowds showed up and the day went by very quickly. I want to thank all of our loyal friends who help the fire department provide their needs. Hope to see you again in August. Nancy Joe Dyer, aunt
Nancy Joe Dyer, aunt and namesake to Nancy Jane McMillan and sister to Priscilla Otto passed away. I met her at TAMU when she was in the College of Liberal Arts and I sure am glad that I did. She was an intelligent lady with a beautiful soul and would do anything to help anyone out. Condolences to the family and her husband, Steven Hodge.
The Flight Lounge at the VFW Post 4006 has new hours. They now open at 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, but the hours are extended to 10 p.m. on Tuesday and 11 p.m. on Fridays. The Lounge will be closed Sunday and Monday. Free Bingo is still on Tuesdays beginning at 5:30 p.m. and the cornhole tournament begins after that.
The White Hall Taxpayers Association met on Thursday. The Birthday Bash was a success and already discussions were held on how to make next year even better. Thanks to all the members and visitors who helped make it a success.
