There are generally rivalries between schools in athletics. Many years ago, I remember Navasota and Brenham did not play well together. Well, Somerville and Snook have this ongoing issue, too. As I see people across the court on the home side, I actually wave at people and my daughter gets a text from the home side, “your mother is at the door!” Diana Lara was on the opposite side also and she lives right down the road from me.

To make my point, towards the end of the Lady Yeguas game, I see an arm flying and getting the bifocals to focus on the person takes a while. I realize that the arm is attached to my very own, Bryanna Grace. Even though the Snook player was a friend and she was almost lying flat on the court, Bree took a swing ending up with a technical foul. Her reasoning was, “she hit me first!” Booger Red and Leslie please understand she is raised between two very big brothers.

The rivalry extended to the cheerleaders, too. Bree ran to change outfits after her game as she is the captain of the group. Somerville has four where Snook had 11. It just so happens that Bree’s tumbling instructor is also the resource officer at Snook. So, she had to show off with her abilities. Actually, she does not really surprise me anymore because she is her mother’s daughter!

Salem Lutheran hosted a special social to honor Pastor and Mrs. Mayerhoff as the official Salem Lutheran Church vacancy pastor this past Sunday. The actual event was very informal with goodies provided by members of the Ladies Circle. We are honored to have them at our church.

The Grimes Health Resource Center needs a senior driver for their meals program. This is a paid position. If you are interested, please call their office, 936-870-4575.

Union Grove Baptist Church will be hosting an event for children of all ages and their families Saturday Jan 22, from 4-7 p.m. Join them for an evening of fun and fellowship! They will have hay rides, a hot dog cookout with s’mores and hot chocolate.

Sunday Jan 30, beginning at 10:30 a.m., Union Grove will host their very popular quarterly fifth Sunday Singing. It is a service of primarily hymns and singing with extra musicians and a covered dish dinner afterwards in the fellowship hall. It is a great opportunity to visit the church community and get to meet your neighbors in White Hall. Requests for songs accepted.

Please continue to keep our sick and homebound friends on your prayer list. These friends include Von Herring, Chad McMillan, Leon Gorney, Sue Kolojaco, Mary Bauer, Rosa Finke, Jack Rimes, Marilyn Frenzel, Lois Bell, Jean Fleischhauer, Margaret Schultz, Lynette Frenzel, Delores Mitschke, Glenn Binder, Laura Pursley, Allen “Butch” Fields, Margaret Finke, Pauline Kaspar, Mary Whatley and Alexander Hanna.
