Martins Prairie Cemetery repairs underway
The membership at Evergreen Baptist Church had their Christmas program before a full house during the morning worship service Sunday, Dec. 12. The children did a good job on the program which was different than any program I have seen. There were 20 children participating. Lunch was served in the fellowship hall following the program. All of the church facilities were beautifully decorated for the Christmas season with Christmas trees and poinsettias donated in memory of loved ones. Everyone had a wonderful time.
The membership of Carlos Fellowship Church had a fellowship meal following their morning worship service Sunday, Dec. 12, in honor of Thanksgiving and Christmas. There was a good number attending and everyone had a wonderful time.
The Iola-North Zulch Order of the Eastern Star No 458 had their monthly meeting Friday, Dec. 10, with a good number in attendance. The meal following the meeting was enjoyed by all. There was also a gift exchange with some gifts exchanged several times. Everyone had a wonderful time as usual. The next meeting is Jan. 24, 2022.
Sad to say several of the Confederate flags were taken from Martins Prairie Cemetery during the week. If something doesn’t belong to you just leave it alone. Stealing a flag is just as bad as stealing flowers.
The fence around Martins Prairie Cemetery has been in bad shape for some time. There is a crew hard at work priming the metal in preparation for painting. It will really look good when it is painted. Also, graves of veterans have been marked with green wreaths and really look good.
There are two new tombstones in Martins Prairie Cemetery. There is a double tombstone on the grave of Jack Raymond Wilder, who was born Oct. 21, 1932 and died Aug. 6, 2021. His wife, Mary Jean Keith Wilder, will also be buried there when the time comes. She is the daughter of Rev. Harley and Winnie Keith. The other tombstone is for the future resting place of Linda Lou Geyer, who was born May 13, 1943.
All of the dump sites in the area should be back to normal with no open dumpsters. This includes the Iola dump site, which will make it easier to dump trash.
