Time to order Labor Day BBQ

After feeling overwhelmed with one of my volunteer groups, I decided to take a day off. Paige, Bree and I spent most of Friday doing nothing fantastic, but we enjoyed each other’s company and laughing. Bree introduced me to a new ice cream place where they put the liquid on a cold plate and use what looks like a paint scraper to blend and roll the thin ice cream. This old lady learned something new.

Saturday was the VFD fundraiser and we want to thank all the continued customers who support our efforts to be prepared to help not only our community but surrounding ones. It was good to see a large group of members ready and available to work. Don’t forget if you need extra BBQ for Labor Day weekend, the VFD can help you out.

Well, I have one more down and one more summer birthday cake to make. After not hearing the plans for meeting Jordan for his birthday supper (and cake), I was getting worried that I would not be able to see him on his birthday. Around 6:15, I received a text message to “haul it” to Somerville and meet him and the family at Las Fuentes, so Paige and I did. She struggled some holding onto the cake with Gingi’s driving but it was all good. I came home with an empty cake carrier, as we shared with all the waiters and the manager who said that was the best cake he ever ate. He asked what kind of liquor I had in it - not sure about that one.

With the surge of COVID again, please take a few minutes to check on those people who live alone and do not have close relatives nearby. I can surely see where depression could become an issue. I try to stay busy to avoid those feelings but not everyone has that opportunity. On top of that, the news we hear is not very encouraging either.

Don’t forget all the churches in the White Hall area invite visitors to attend their Sunday services. What better way to meet people in God’s house!

Please say a prayer for Mrs. Mary Whatley, she lost her husband. They attended Salem Lutheran and were such a pleasant, friendly couple.

With school beginning to start all around the county, be safe when approaching school buses and keep those children and teachers in your prayers. Some of the uncertainties they may face can place much stress on those youngsters also.

Please continue to keep our sick and homebound friends on your prayer list. These friends include Leon Gorney, Sue Kolojaco, Mary Bauer, Rosa Finke, Lois Bell, Pauline Kaspar, Richard Shimshack, Al Ripper, Chad McMillan, Jean Fleischhauer, Margaret Schultz, Lynette Frenzel, Delores Mitschke, Margaret Finke and Alexander Hanna. If you would, please add those caretakers to your prayer list also.
