Richards begins track and field season
Without much time to practice, several Richards High School boys performed well at their first track and field meet.
Senior Fanin Fuller placed third in the shot put at the Iola Relays, while junior Reece Wrobleski was third in the 800-meter run and sophomore Noah Bay was fourth.
The boys were unable to practice much for their events because they played for the basketball team that reached the playoffs. “That was a good way to go out,” Fuller said about the playoffs being the end of his basketball career. CRAW WED.& THU
His effort in the shot put was 35 feet, 11 inches. “I was happy with it,” he said. “I think I can do a lot better.”
Fuller is among the boys also playing for the baseball team. He said he practices the shot put and the discus in PE during school hours, then heads to afternoon baseball practice.
He has been playing mostly catcher for the baseball team, though he also has played center field. He said he singled in four atbats during two lopsided losses at a recent tournament.
GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD: Five Lady Panthers competed in the Iola meet. Freshman Elizabeth Holtey finished second in the 800 run to lead the girls.
