Examiner photos by Connie Clements Richards VFD s upporters came from the north end of Grimes as well as Montgomery and Waller counties.

The sunshine and blue sky were made to order for the 28th annual Richards Volunteer Fire Department fundraiser Saturday, Nov.

2. The event at the Richards fire station was well attended not just by locals but by residents from all parts Grimes County and beyond.

A barbecue brisket and sausage dinner, plenty of desserts, a spotted cow bounce house and a made-for-rural-life simulation of a truck rollover provided by Texas AgriLife offered something of interest for everyone.

The focal point, however, was the silent and live auction to fund the purchase of additional equipment, protective gear, provide training or the maintenance and operation of the Richards VFD.

Silent auction items ranged from homegrown bell peppers to gift cards to jewelry while the 50-plus live auction items included hand-crafted furniture, Texas-themed décor, fire pits, propane and meal gift certificates provided by many Grimes County eating establishments. And of course, no Grimes County fundraiser is complete without a firearms raffle.

Fire Chief Cort Nor-wood expressed his sincere appreciation for the turnout, and especially for the volunteers of Hope Tabernacle in Montgomery led by Richards VFD chaplain, Debbie Kissler, serving and assisting as needed.
